I love this drug.... I was on the verge of having my colon taken out. I hated all the pills. I started off by taking 3 in the morning and that was it. In a month down to two a day. Been having good days every since. Never looked back. I also take imuran and folic acid. Have little tiredness and joint pain, but it is nothing compared with the chronic cramps and depression that UC causes. Would knock over a bank to pay for it, if i had too. Shire offers a card program to help with the cos... t. I only pay $25.00 month for my RX with the card and my insurance. That is cheap. If your down and out, go see your GI about the drug, if they want asacol or colazol, tell them that this is the same, except it works. DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER. Read More Read Less

I have been on this medicne for a few months now and it seems to be working pretty good. It is a welcome change from taking 12 asacol a day. I do have some fatigue with this medicine, but otherwise feel fine.

I have been doing well except for chronic fatique, although that subsided a little after reducing the dose. Now after almost a year I am experiencing severe joint pain which is listed as a possible side effect. Looking into it.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease 5 months ago. While using Asacol I had severe hair loss. There also were days when I felt like I couldn not get enough sleep/rest to suit me. I have recently switched to Colazal. I've only been using it for 1 week so I will be leaving a review soon.

I was put on this medication after the one I was on before stopped working for me. I'm 21 now and that was when i was 18. I like this medication, but sometimes I feel sick to my stomach with it or I can't eat a meal during the day.

i was diagnosed in 1990, have had several resections and tried many drugs. currently for the last ten years i have taken pentasa. 3000 mg/daily. i take 1500 mg in am and 1500 in pm. also take 6MP (mercapurine) 50 mg daily. i have been symptom free and bowel movements have dropped to 1-2 times a day from 6 to 10, mainly depends on what i eat.

I have been taking Ascaol for 4 years in varying doses currently 4x400 3 times per day. It does a good job of keeping my symptoms under control. I have been on many other meds over the years, this is the one that works best for me.

After using a few months, I had a flare-up, and was put back on cortesteriods for a short period. Is there any OTC pain medication that can be taken? My dr. said to stay off aspirin. Does that mean nothing (ibuprophen, aleve, etc.) can't be taken either?

I am currently taking 4, 400 mg 3 times a day. Even though some of the pills seem to pass through my system undisolved, they turned out to be just the hulls of this time released medicine. My urgency and frequency have been reduced greatly. I now feel that I can venture away from the toilet without wearing a diaper. So far, I am starting to get my life back!

I was diagnosed with Crohns earlier this year and was placed on pentasa 2 tablets 4x a day to see if this would control my symptoms and it has worked great! i have very few flare ups and its working so well that soon i will be able to lower the dosage. Few headaches during the beginning of taking it but now I have no side effects.

Diagnosed w/ ulcertive colitis in '84, woohoo!! upgraded to crohn's in 2000. Long story . . . 4 tabs;4x each day, plus 2 purinethal, lab tests each month to see if I was destroying my liver. Quit taking meds altogether. Extremely bad news. Tried something new. Garden of life primal defense, works unbelievably well. Started eating 5 - 8 times a day smaller portions, cleaner foods, following a low impact carb style diet, working out more. Now, no more purinethal, 1x1 pentasa each day, 1 "dirt pill... " each day. have the symptoms so well under control I was able to go to Iraq for a year and use my professional knowledge to support coalition forces. Read More Read Less

Asacol kept me in remission for three years, then stopped working. No side effects. Many other drugs tried and failed. I've been on prednisone for almost 4yrs now with no symptoms. Very toxic but only thing working for me. Side effects: bone loss, thinning skin.

I have been taking Pentasa for 4 years. I had a hard time taking 2caps 4x daily, so my doctor recommended that I take 4 caps 2x daily. Has worked well for me, with very few flare ups.
