I am 73 yrs. Old, have had UC on and off since I was 26yr. Old. I have only taken meds when I have a flare up. Mine went into remission from time to time and I quit my meds. Started having problems, constant constipation with pain in my colon and bowel, after a colonoscopy the Dr put me on two Lialda a day. It was like instant relief. After 5 months I quit taking them and did great for about 6 months. Had a flair up and back on 2 a day. Will go off again and not take anything until a flair a... nd I'll go back to Lialda again! I have had UC for 2 years, this drug has kept me symptom free with no side effects so far for the whole 2 years. My only slight irritation is that my doctor prescribes 1 gramme tablets which are big to swallow.

Was taking 3 pills per day at 800 mg for many years...past six months lowered dosage to 2 pills per day...flareups are not as often even with lower dosage.

I started Apriso a month ago. I was on Asacol for 4 years (the length of my diagnosis), but my insurance stopped covering it. I was nervous about switching, but so far so good on Apriso. I have experienced diahrea and a rash, but both were mild and didn't last long. I also take Humira. Looking forward to possibly going into remission.

My doctor prescribed this medication when Asacol was taken off the market. It did not work and I had to change to Delzicol DR. The doctor said about half his patients taking Lialda found it did not work.

Initially I had a few bouts of dizziness, muscle and tendon discomfort (cramping) which seemed to subside. Have noticed intermittent very dark (orange/reddish) urine which concerns me.

No Blood, but lots of other symptoms. Bloating, Fecal urgency, making 3 stops at 3 gas stations on the way to work, tired, run down. After 7 months of these symptoms and 2 didn't quite make it days. I went back to my doctor. Day 2 I was able to make it to work without stopping. It took a little effort but I made it. I am on day 4 and still with a little effort I am able to get to work (30 miles in Los Angeles) without stopping. The side effects so far are a little stomach upset, dizzy feeling fo... r the first few hours, mild, very mild headache. I expect these to lessen with time as right now my security (job) was at stake so the side effects are acceptable. I am experimenting with when to take it to lessen the symptoms. Must take it with food. Anyway so far I am happy. Read More Read Less

I have been on this medication for 18 years. I was on asacol for the last 16 until its name changed to deizacol. I couldn't find Deizacol on the med list on this website. Lately, this medication isn't helping as much. I have had 2 hepatic lobes on my liver since I went on this medication and I feel very bloated. This medicine had almost no side effects for years and now it seems to be giving me some.

Ok I was diagnosed with mild colitis when I was 18years old I was told to take asacol every day for the rest of my life I thought I new better,I went drug free for 6 years which is quite surprising but just over a year ago I started having a small flare so went to see a private doctor where I had a colonoscopy done which showed my disease being in the lower bowel and rectum,my disease is quite small only 7cm long..anyway cut a lot of Bg story short..I was asacol hd 4800mg a day which wouldn't ke... ep this small disease at bay..so I was on and on off pred for over a year..anyway after seeing a new doctor I told him my symptoms of fresh blood in my stool,he basicly explained this is a very common problem with asacol because where my disease is right at the bottom near the rectum the asacol does not reach that far down,he now put me on 1200mg asacol a day and a 500mg asacol suppository..wishing the first day of using the asacol suppository the blood was nearly gone..this has been a game changer for me..won't like its kind of annoying doing a suppository every night and my stool looking a creamy color but the blood has stopped Read More Read Less

With both Asocol and Lialda, I experienced hair loss. Does anyone know if Biotin or anything else would help eliminate that side-effect? In terms of effectiveness, it's been pretty good. I haven't noticed any blood in my stools or had any major flare-ups. A more minor side-effect is gas.

Pentasa was effective for about 2 years but then I started having intestinal bleeding. I was told by one doctor that it could be caused by the Pentasa because it contains aspirin and I had previously had bleeding caused by aspirin. My GI doctor said it is a different form of aspirin and doesn't cause bleeding yet she immediately took me off the Pentasa. Does anyone know which is correct?

After taking Asocol for years, doctor prescribed Delzicol. I discovered that inside the Delzicol capsule is the Asocol tablet. Spoke to pharmasist and he said that it is now delayed release. I wonder???

Diagnosed with Crohn's in May. Switched from Lialda w/prednisone to Pentasa about a month ago. It's like I'm not taking any medication at all. I had no issues with Lialda. Stayed away from fried foods, leafy greens and nuts. Now, it doesn't matter what I eat...

Have had UC for 45 yrs & since I was given Asacol (1998) I'd had NO flare-ups (used 400 mg, 2 am, 2 noon, 2 evening). It was a Godsend. Then they said that was no longer available & I had to use Asacol HD, 2 yrs ago, and since then have had lengthy flare-ups yearly. A friend had same non-response to it. Why did they change it? To have a "new" patent so they wouldn't have to make generic version (which was eminent)? I am furious. Since I had yearly flare-ups without it, I may as well stop ... using it. Very disappointed in the company. Read More Read Less

I had to start taking the pill out of the capsules. The capsules would not dissolve and caused lots of stomach problems. I take 6 pills a day and have more flares up than I ever did on Asacol. They say the active ingredients are the same as asacol, but if you check the inactive ingredients, they are totally different that Asacol. I have a serious heart condition and since I have been on delzicol, I have had a lot more irregular heart beats and slower heart beats. I go back to my Dr in Aug... ust, and plan on having a long talk with him about this drug. Read More Read Less
