My husband has been using this medication for about 10 years, however, his liver function test has shown changed dramatically, we are wondering if this is a side of effect of long term use? Is this something that is happening because of the prolonged use of this drug? We are going through blood testing, liver function test and also a CT scan of the liver to see what could be causing this. We are not sure which drug is causing this problem, first checking on the heart drugs, to narrow it down. ... We wonder if any one else has this problem with this drug. Read More Read Less

Although I don't have the urge to go as often as when I was having my flare up this drug did not heal my ulcers and I have moderate joint pain, am easily tired (not usual for me) and occassional feverish feelings. During my previous flare up (3 yrs ago) my Doctor put me on Asacol and my sympthoms disappeared almost immediately and it healed my ulcers within 2 months time. One big draw back was once I was on my 3rd month of taking Asacol I started having memory loss so I stopped taking the med an... d was fine for 3 more years. Requesting my Doctor put me back on Asacol or a similar medicine without the memory loss. Read More Read Less

I have been using this for 2 weeks now. I was on Asacol but my hair was falling out. My hair is still falling out and I have had some extra bruising. Anyone else have these problems?

My doctor switched me to this after asacol did not work and gave me bad stomach cramps. At first it gave me headaches but I can deal with that as it has helped my symptoms so much. I take 2 a day and it works great. I just had a colonoscopy and thought I was having a flare up and it turns out the bottom of my colon is inflamed so I am on suppositories now as well. He said that can happen with oral medication. Overall, this drug is great and has made my life a lot better.

I had severe cramping and diarrhea almost constantly. I felt like I was in hell. Since the doctor prescribed ASACOL, I feel like a new person. It's like a miracle. If I stop taking it, I get the cramping and diarrhea back. I have no plans to quit taking this medication.

I have been diagnosed with UC for only 3 years now, but this drug has been a miracle for me. My first doctor first treated me with the suppository mesalamine which worked at first, but as soon as I was tapered off my symptoms returned very quickly, and worse. I ended up going to see a 2nd doctor in the same practice who took a more aggresive approach and put me on the asacol oral tablets, as well as the suppositories and all symtoms went away within 30 days. I now take asacol tablets to remain... in remission and it has been very effective in doing so...I think the key is to not be tapered off so quickly like my first doctor did. Of course, everyone's body is different but I will continue to use this drug as long as it continues to work since side effects are non existent for me and it has increased my quality of life. Was diagnosed with Crohn's in March '08 and immediately started on Pentasa. This drug did nothing to help and at times I think it made things worse. It was also almost impossible to choke down 8 pills a day and many times they would come back up. It was pretty much just flushing money down the drain.

I have been on Lialda for two weeks, 4 per day, and that's 2 more than the normal dose. But I have severe ulcerative colitis, diarrhea 10 times a day, some rectal bleeding, much discomfort. I am so much better since I've been on Lialda. I just can't believe it has worked so well so quickly. And, of course, I hope it continues. My only complaint? Flatulance! But I can put up with that as long as my other symptoms have been relieved.
