Pentasa has put my disease in remission. The only problem I have is with my skin; it is very dry and scaly and my face and neck have severely broken out in small white pimples. It is also very red and itchy and sometimes painful.

Hello people. like most of you, Lialda works for me. I been on it for like 8 months. So far no sideffets. But I hate taking them because Im only 21 and if I take these pills forever im sure to have sideffects. I am going to try to take one pill a day for now on, and later I want to take none. I dont want the sideffects and I possibly want to have a child later but not when im on Lialda. Any advice? has anybody had healthy kids on Lialda? has anybody stopped taking Lialda and is fine without it?

I have been taking lialda or a month now and I love it. the only thing is I had to split my dose. it was not lasting all day for me when taking all 4 oills in the morning so my doctor told me to take two in the morning and two at dinner and it worked. I have had no problems so far. just that the pills are big and have to take one at a time. I was on asacol but had bad reaction but this medicine is doing the trick. and it is easy to remember to take.

Was on Lialda, but had to stop b/c it was too expensive. Have had mild to moderate constipation since going on the Asacol, and more upper abdominal discomfort (mild) than I had on the Lialda. Also have to remember to take mid-day dose.

Started at 3x 800 mg and went in remission within 5 weeks. Had 6 units of blood 12/08 to bring red blood count to 10. this with asacol seemed to help stop the affects of uc. currently in a flare up , first since 1/09 will see what happens and if it gets worse will see if increasing dosage is an option.

I've been battling this disease almost 15 years; I'm 28 years old-so I've been treated with Asacol-which I couldn't tolerate,Dipentum which worked and I went into remission for about 8 years-without medicine, and for the last 6 months I've had consistent flare ups. After a colonoscopy I was diagnsed with Ulcerative colotis and started taking Lialda-and within days all bleeding, mucus, bloating, cramping, stopped almost immediately after inhitiating Lialda therapy. I've experienced NO side effects... what so ever-it is by far a miracle drug!! Read More Read Less

After taking 2 pills 3 x a day, it did not help my 12-15 bathroom trips per day. It did cut out about 80-90% of the bleeding. I have gained 15 pounds since taking this drug daily for 9 months! I have since discovered a probiotic that has bought my ulcerative colitis in complete remission! Within 3 weeks of starting this probiotic, I have not had any diarhea for the last 3 1/2 months. I am back to 1 normal bowel movement a day and no bleeding! In my opinion, this probiotic is a miracle! It is Gar... den of Life--Primal Defense Ultra; you can order it on-line. I take this probiotic twice a day, and I have cut, with my Dr.'s permission, my Asacol dosage to 1 pill 2 x a day. We are working toward a complete but gradual weening from Asacol and to hopefully be able to solely rely on the probiotic. Read More Read Less

Please be aware how misleading the following entries may be. The option for rating Asacol does not include people WITH SYMPTOMS; surely people WITHOUT SYMPTOMS will have better things to say about this drug. Try reading few general entries. Most importantly: Asacol affects liver and kidney function. Whenever I took it for longer periods I had to stop because my blood test results were elevated. Doctors usually say that with such high levels one has to have either hepatitis or abuse alcohol. ... I do not drink and a different blood test shows no hepatitis. I stopped Asacol and results went back to normal range. I repeated this cycle on three occasions and finally stopped taking Asacol at all. I also observed following side effects : ever- present mild nausea, weight gain, stomach cramping and bloating. Read More Read Less

I have been dealing with ulcerative colitis for 15 years now. I find Asacol working only in mild cases; as with each relapse disease progresses it doesn't matter if you take it or not. You still have to use the bathroom 5,6,7 times a day. Diet DOES play the role as well as great amount of stress. Asacol is not targeting the disease itself but only the symptoms and as such has a limited use. Studies are being conducted to find out what (if any) organism is causing ulcerative colitis.

My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed in April & has been taking 3000mg per day. Just got bloodwork back and having some bun/creatnine issues. Probably will be switching to something new next appt. Also, these pills are HUGE for a kid to swallow!

I was placed on Asacol in early 2007 after a colonoscopy that revealed ulcerative colitis. Continued to have periodic flare ups with mucous and blood in stool. Contrary to manufacturer's recommendation my kidney function was neither checked prior to prescribing Asacol, nor during its use. In March 2009 my blood test showed high levels of creatinine in my blood, an indicator of kidney failure. Emergency hospitalization and a kidney biopsy confirmed end stage renal disease. I have been on di... alysis since then. I heard on the NPR Peoples' Pharmacy program that ulcerative colitis could be controlled by eating coconut. Since March 2009 I have eaten coconut flakes with yogurt and fruit at breakfast. All indications are that my ulcerative colitis is controlled. All symptons have disappeared. I am scheduling a colonoscopy to confirm this. I encourage all to do an internet search on the relationship of coconut and inflammatory bowel disease. Good luck. Read More Read Less

Have been taking Pentasa for 3 months and it is working great. Had headaches for a few days when I first started taking it, but they have gone away. Need to stay away from the fresh vegetables and some fruits.
