been using Asacol for a week now and right away my symptoms have all but gone away...great, that is until i noticed i was constipated...not cool at all...i was prescribed to take 3x a day 2 pills...a bit much i thot, so i scaled it back by half...glad i did, constipation and Crohns not a good combo....did notice too that i developed a slight case of thrush due to the use of this steroid...just a word of caution should a doctor prescribe it....overall tho happy with results, not side effects :(

Definitly less pain now, I have problems swallowing pills so here's the trick, my pharmacist recomended, in a tsp or tbsp add water to pills just enough to dissolve them, mix into yogurt (can use applesauce or whatever your preference)This keeps time release bits in-tact. I eat this twice a day and easy to fit with meals

I have been happy with the lack of flare ups after taking Lialda for one month; however, I have been runnning a low grade fever and have severe neck and knee pain--comparable to arthritis. Anyone else have these symptoms?

I have a post, back in October 2009, about my experience with Lialda. At the time I was wanting to know of alternative medications and other natural ways to treat my ulcerative colitis. I reduced my dosage of my Lialda, on my own, over the months of October and November and just stayed on the Canasa Suppositories at night. I experimented with Omega 3,6,9 oils, Aloe Vera Juice and probiotics. I also tried peppermint, wintergreen and spearmint essential oils. Flax oils. Eating lots of salmon ... and joined a group that only ate raw food. And started eating raw and eating no dairy or sugars. I did this through the months of December and January. IT DID NOT WORK. I started to flare Januray 22, 2010 and I experienced the worst flare I have ever experienced. I was going to the rest room up to 20 times a day. I experienced horrible stomach cramping, diarrhea that was pure liquid and LOTS of blood. I have lost 15 pounds in a month and am anemic. I went to my Gastro Dr.in February and am now on tons of medication to get me back into remission. At frist, I was back on 4 pills a day of the Lialda and Mesalamine Ennamas at night. I have been on this medication for a month now and saw a bit of relief after 3 weeks, but not a complete recovery. My Dr. last week also put me on 40mg of Predisone and I am starting to feel somewhat better. I am going to the bathroom up to 5 times a day and the blood is subsiding. I have missed a lot of work days and have used many sick calls. I now wish that 4 pills of Lialda was all I needed to take. Looking back now, I miss those days. All I have to suggest to everyone is to take your medication as the Dr. tells you. The Lialda did have some side effects but they are no way as bad as what you go though going off of it. Started taking it after got out of hospital for the second time for my crohn's and for the first couple of days it would upset my crohn's but after a few days it went away and worked great. I do suggest not missing any doses because my symptoms would come back if I missed my doses. I really like this version of asacol because you don't need to take as many because the mg is greater. only three a day instead of six.

I have been taking Lialda for 2 weeks since I was diagnosed with UC. It has done nothing to help the symptoms at all and I have been living with headaches the whole time. I'm going to continue to use it until my next appointment but I don't expect it to do anything more than it already has.

I took Entocort EC for six months and only had minor improvement for lymochatic (sp?)colitis. It also made me extremely ill. I had to insist on a medication change and was given Apriso for the past two months. I feel so much better and it works for me 95% of the time. Minimal side effects of headache and some hair loss. The only other problem is that I do have the problem of immune system suppression so I'm catching a lot of colds, sinusitus, etc. that aren't responding well to antibiotics. It t... akes twice as long (and twice as many antibiotcis) to get better as it should. I would still recommend Apriso as the best choice of the medications available. Read More Read Less
