This medication did nothing for my Crohn's disease. It made the diarrhea and cramping worse. It was very expensive, even with insurance the co-pay was $75+. After taking on/off over the past 10 years I still ended up having surgery for a small bowel obstruction and had a small fistula attachment to the bladder. While I realize every case is different, this med was totally useless in my case, and a waste of time & money!

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and Ulcerative Proctitis in 2002. The ONLY drug i was ever perscribed was Canasa. Over the years my symptons never really changed. I mostly suffered from thee joint pain and sick stomach feeling. Recently i was told i have a form of Crohns also. At this time i was put on Lialda. Not sure what's going on but it seems my headaches and joint pain has worsened. Now i am getting ready to have a gallbladder scan done to check for any problems. The main complaint... i have so far is the horrible pain i have in my joints. My hands hurt everyday. Somedays i can barely get out of bed for the pain in my body. What the heck is going on???? I had uc when 14 years old. About died, then Dr. prescribed cortisone and when symptoms disappeared, weaned me off of it. I went symptom free for 55 years, taking no medicine. 3 years ago noticed gradual onset of uc. Dr. started me on asacol and switched to lialda. Been on lialda (4 tabs daily)for over two years and almost symptom free. Do notice being tired in evening, some joint pain, and reduced sex desire, but, hey, at 69 years, its a small price to pay to feel good most of the time.

The first 3 weeks were amazing. All of my symptoms were gone and after the first dose I had a formed stool. Once week 4 hit everything changed. Bloody stool, abdominal pain, fatigue...all of my previous symptoms came back. :( I was so happy that I'd finally found something that worked, but it only lasted a short while.

Lialda seemed to help my UC symptoms, although I still have IBS symptoms. But I developed joint pain in my knees and knuckles while taking Lialda, and after being off of it for 3 months, I still have the joint pain. I can't find anywhere whether this is a permanent condition or not. Some reviews I've read say their pain went away when stopping Lialda. Does anyone else have permanent joint pain from Lialda, or know where I can find my answer regarding this? Thank you for your help.

Loss of Libido / ED Lialda has helped me with my heavy bleeding that I was experiencing - something I had never experienced before with over 13 years of ulcerative colitis. Like others on here, I have some pain in my joints, but my biggest concern is my lack of libido and lack of erections since starting my treatments. I have been taking 4 pills a day and have taken 2 bottles worth. The only time I did not have a problem was when I was without the medication for about three days. I was back to ... "my old self". My wife has noticed it as well and I, we, were wondering if anyone else had experienced the same thing?? Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about 4 months ago. I have been taking Asocol ever since and have not had any flare up of my syptoms. I am like a new woman! My only complaint is taking it 3x's per day. It is the only medication I take but I still set up a pill box, which does help, but I still miss at least 1 or 2 doses per week. I have not had any side effects on this drug.

I started taking Lialda during a 2 month severe flare up. The medication was amazing. I started feeling results within 48 hours. After 10 days my flare up was completely gone. Two years later I'm still on Lialda as a preventative measure. In the two years I've only had 2,or 3 MINOR 24-48 hour flare ups that went away QUICKLY. I highly recommend this medication. If you cant afford it, call a group called Shire who is associated with Lialda. They should be able to pay for most if not all of the co... st. Read More Read Less

I had undiagnosed Crohn's for over 20 years. After finally diagnosing the disease and having surgery to remove the diseased portion of my intestine, my doctor put me on Asacol. I have been on it for 10 years now, and I feel that I am in remission from the disease. I have no side effects and none of the symptoms of Crohn's.

Was on Asacol for months with no relief. Upon taking Lialda i noticed improvement within a few days. Almost no pain with the occasional cramping here and there. However, the monthly refill is worse than my car payments and a severe drain on the funds of a college grad student.

I've had ulcerated colon symptoms since I was 11 years old. Didn't know that is what I had until at age 55 I had my first colonoscopy. The doctor put me on asacol and for me it was like a miracle drug. I felt better after the first day on it. A year later at age 56 I had a second colonoscopy and the redness and the symptoms were gone. I am now in remission. I don't feel any side effects. I've been taking 4 pills a day, 2 in the morning and 2 at night.

have noticed extreme fatigue at the end of the day (taking Lialda at 6:30 am at breakfast) Can't stay awake in the evenings past about 8:30. No problem with fatigue when stopped taking medicine for a couple of days. Anyone else find this to be their experience?
