When I started taking this drug my symptoms improved some for about a month, then immediately my symptoms deteriorated to worse than before I started the drug.

I had diverticulosis and after about 16 yrs. had a colon resection with perfect results. After a few flareups my doc put me on Lialda. I have taken 2 a day for over a year now. I never read all the reviews on this site but now I see hair loss and joint pain are issues. In the last 4 or 5 months I have had hair loss in the crown area, no where else. Joint/muscle ache I have attributed to Lipitor...maybe it is the Lialda. I still am extremely happy with this medication but have just found out my m... edicare Rx plan (which will start in Jan.) will not cover Lialda. I am nervous about switching drugs and I think when I mentioned it to the nurse she said asacol would be covered. After reading all the reviews I am going to figure out something so I can remain on Lialda. Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with Colitis / Proctitis approximately 2 months ago. I have been taking Asacol since I was diagnosed. I take the 800 MG 3 times a day. I also took the suppository for 4 weeks. My symptoms went away after the first month. The bleeding stopped after about 2 weeks of treatment. I am having some side effects, they are minor. The most concerning is that I believe I am having slight hair lose. I am very glad that this medicine has stopped my bleeding. Hopefully I can reduce my... intake to 2 times a day after a few more months. It is difficult to take a pill 3 times a day. Read More Read Less

Husband has been on this drug off and on for about 3 yrs. It seems to be very effective to treat a flare of ulcerative colitis, but after he is on it for a while, he starts up with some weird symptoms with lower Hct and hemoglobin. Also has bleeding under the skin and bleeds easily under the skin if he hits his forearms. These symptoms subside when he quits taking it. This last time he has had bad headaches, fatigue, body aches and fever like symptoms. Got him to discontinue other meds to tr... y and pin down what is causing these nasty cascade of symptoms. Only other med left is prozac 20mg, sooo. Believe it's time to cut back on the two of these- Be careful, Drs will keep adding more med for symptoms instead of looking at cutting back on meds to treat. Read More Read Less

I have had way more flare ups and more hospital visits while on this drug! I found Pentasa to be superior, BY FAR! almost 11 years of dealing with my UC and the insurance company will not pay for the drug that actually worls for me,...... Asacol helps a little but I am searching for something better! I have small children and do not have the time or energy to be dealing with constant stomach pains and frequent visits to the restroom..

I have been dealing with UC for almost 11 years now! When first diagnosed my doctor prescribed PEntasa and it worked wonderfully for me, When I felt a flare up beginning I would take a couple extra and within a few days I felt a million times better! My insurance will no longer pay for Pentasa and am now on Asacol, which is by far inferior, I am sick and been hospitalized far more than when i was taking the miracle drug Pentasa!

In the beginning I had headaches when I started taking the medication. With much discussion with my physician we were able to readjust the doses and space out the frequency of taking the medication. Now I have fewer flare ups and less headaches.

I have been taking it since 2007 and find it very effective. I take 2 caps before breakfast and 2 before dinner. Recently my liver function is high and I'm not sure if it's from the med or just a side effect of Crohns. I have lots of inflamation lately and the Pentasa doesn't seem to help that at all. But it does allow me to eat pain free. I have cut back my dosage in the past and it always comes back to haunt me!

I had a colonoscopy due to pains in the abdomen and chronic constipation. I was diagnosed with diverticulosis. I was given samples of Lialda and when picking up my actual prescription, I was given both Lialda and Asacol. Seems to me as if these are the same meds. Havent started taking this yet, after reading all these side effects. Why would my doctor prescribe both for chronic constipation?? Any advice?
