I was diagnosed with UC in 2008. I was prescribed asacol and just couldn't handle the daily dosage. My dr then prescribed lialda and it has made a remarkable difference. I started out with 4 pills daily and am now on a maintenance dose of 1.2 mg daily! Overall, I feel great. My flare ups have subsided and I am able to manage my condition with diet. The only noticeable side effects I have had to tolerate are joint pain, hair loss and decline in libido. However, I feel my quality of life has great... ly improved now that I have control of my UC. I started out on this medication and because of cost, switched to a generic alternative, which did not work as well. Am back on Apriso and are doing very well. This medication does have an adverse interaction when taken with Flagyl 500mg. I cannot take them at the same time.

Colon healed 90% when using this medication for three years. One short flare up, easily resolved by increasing dose from maintenance to max, then tapering back to maintenance. Side effects only in the beginning such as headache, bloating, dizziness. After months of use, none.

1 Pill twice a day.Few side effects.I was drug free for 30 years, prior to bad flare up. I have a 4" long stricture. No surgeries, I have refused since I was 16, 54 now and i have all my hair! DIET IS IMPORTANT! No coffee, pop, red meat, little sugar,no Liquor.I exercise often.Drink lots of water. Eat fruits before a meal, never just after. You The fruit ferments and bloats you. Apriso also worked for me, for those looking for another treatment. Add Omega 3 to dirt w/ Papaya pills and chewable acido... pholous. Aloe Juice slowly added to diet and increased helps the bowels heal. Limit Chocolate. It speeds up and heats up the colon. Good luck! Read More Read Less

Further to my last review of June 7, 2011, I have had no flareups for 18 months now while taking Apriso daily. My doctor has instructed me to keep taking it and I will. The only side effect is occasional stiffness. I also take Align, a probiotic everyday. Using the two has worked well.

I had explosive diarhea for 7 weeks before being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Asacol gave me back my life by controlling my symptoms completely!

I will have to say that if this drug works for you, it's much easier to take because the pills are much smaller then other drugs I've taken for my Ulcerative Colitis. However, the Asacol made me very ill. I had to stopped taking it after only 3 days because I had severe abdominal pain and bleeding.

Diagnosed a little over 4 years ago, been on and off Lialda ever since. Started on 2, (1 in morning, 1 at night) but I just felt... off... Eventually went to 1 a day, which has been just fine, even during an active flare. I hate pills with a passion, so the fewer I have to take in my life, the better. I supplement that with 2 doses of a prescription-grade probiotic a day. That combo has made a world of difference. No 'normal' side effects, no hair loss, no joint pain, no fatigue. The only... side effect seems to be hormonal. I have pain during ovulation now, which I never had before taking this medicine. Read More Read Less

Doctor prescribed 4 pills daily. I took 1 at lunch , thought I better take only one since I am pretty sensitive to medications . Within 2 hours had a severe rash with hives from shoulder blade to thigh. Called the Doctor and they said this was a severe reaction and Do Not Take anymore , DUH ! Was left with a almost full bottle worth $200.00 that got thrown into the trash can ! Next prescription will ask for samples or only a few days worth , just in case I can't take them.
