There's no cure for MG, but there are treatments available to help relieve symptoms. The goal is to make your life as comfortable as possible.

There are several different types of treatment for MG: treatments to relieve symptoms, treatments to ramp down an overactive immune system, and surgery. Here's how you can prepare for your visit with your medical provider to discuss them all.

You'll leave your appointment with a lot of information about your treatment plan for MG. Here are next steps:

Track your symptoms. This will help you gauge if your current treatment is working.

Order your medications. Since most drugs for myasthenia gravis are specialty medications, they're often only available in pharmacies in a limited quantity – or not at all. Make sure you figure out where you can get your medication as soon as you can so you're not scrambling at the last minute. Make sure your medication is on automatic refill. 

Make a treatment schedule. If you need to be driven to a treatment center for an infusion, figure out who's driving you there and back. If a nurse comes to your house, make sure you schedule those visits well in advance. Ideally, you'll have a standing regular appointment on a weekly (or biweekly or monthly) basis. 

Make a communication plan with your doctor's office. If you have side effects, worsening symptoms, or just feel that treatment isn't working, you'll want to know the best way to reach your doctor's office. Many have nurses on call who can help.
